Into the sky with the chiseled, highly decorated Air Force pilot, based on a comic strip (which ran from 1947 to 1988) by Milton Caniff, who created `Terry and the Pirates.' The series and strip reflected the nation's post-World War II can-do spirit. It wasn't until January 1959, when Canyon began operating from Big Thunder AFB, that it had a regular supporting cast.
4:30 AMThe Millionaire
An anthology about the effects of sudden wealth---a million-dollar gift---on various lives. Each week, a multibillionaire (whose face was hidden) directed his secretary, Michael Anthony, to give a tax-free check of $1 million to a particular person, with the understanding that the recipient couldn't reveal to anyone (except a spouse) the source of the money or try to learn the identity of the benefactor. How or why the recipients were selected was never explained.

5:30 AMHoney West
A honey of a drama about a drop-dead gorgeous, karate-kicking private eye with an ocelot named Bruce for a pet. She fights the bad guys with an arsenal of fashionable crime-busting gizmos, such as an exploding compact and bejeweled handcuffs. Honey first appeared in a series of novels, then after making her TV debut on an April 1965 episode of `Burke's Law,' was spun off into her own show. It deserved better than its one-year run.

11:00 AMThe Donna Reed Show
A beloved long-running sitcom about a harried suburban housewife, her pediatrician husband and their children. The show was chaste and wholesome to a fault, but---like other squeaky clean contemporaries such as `Leave It to Beaver' and `The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet'---it was undeniably appealing. It also made teen idols (and brief singing stars) of Paul Petersen and Shelley Fabares.

3:00 PMThe Bob Newhart Show
Newhart had his first sitcom success as Chicago psychologist Bob Hartley in this ensemble gem of the 1970s. Complicating life for the serene, stammering doc and his wise wife, Emily, were their neighbor, Howard, a flighty navigator; and Bob's coworkers, dentist Jerry and flippant receptionist Carol. The humor was gentle, sophisticated and, at times, wonderfully surreal. `We were selling class and charm and wit,' series cocreator David Davis said. And for six years, viewers were happily buying.
