9:00 PMDesigning Women
Savvy single women run Sugarbakers, an Atlanta decorating business, in this saucy sitcom with feminist sensibilities, which also endured its share of tabloid notoriety (thanks in some measure to Delta Burke's fluctuating weight and her departure from the series in 1991). Created by Harry Thomason and Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, the series garnered 11 Emmy nominations.
9:30 PMMurphy Brown
Diane English's hit sitcom about the brassy star reporter for a TV newsmagazine and her coworkers. Based in Washington, D.C., Murphy is mouthy, driven, assured and frequently politically incorrect. She also has a real problem holding on to secretaries (going through 93 of them during the Emmy-winning show's 10-season run). In 1992, Murph ran into criticism from Dan Quayle (and scored loads of free publicity) when the vice president slammed the working single mom's `alternative lifestyle.'
10:00 PMJohnny Carson
Reruns of the popular late-night talk show that ran from 1962-92 and featured guests, stand-up comedians and musical performances.
11:00 PMCoach
A sturdy sitcom about brash football coach Hayden Fox, who began with the Minnesota State Screaming Eagles when the series kicked off in 1989 and switched to the professional Orlando Breakers in '95. Hayden also made the leap to marriage in that time, saying `I do' to steady squeeze Christine.
11:30 PMNewsRadio
A sharp cast buoyed this underrated comedy about the staff at an all-news radio station in New York City. A midseason offering, it was moved 11 times during its four-year run, which sometimes made it difficult for viewers to find the show, and is likely why it always seemed to be on the brink of cancellation. In May 1998, actor Phil Hartman was murdered, and was replaced in the cast by Jon Lovitz, another alum of `Saturday Night Live.'
12:00 AMBecker
The rants of a grumpy Bronx physician mask a softer side, which he---only occasionally---displays to his patients. Not so lucky are his office staff and the folks he meets regularly at a local diner. This was Ted Danson's second sitcom in two years on the network. (His newspaper comedy 'Ink' flopped during the 1996-97 season.)
12:30 AMDear John
A recently divorced New York teacher joins a lonely-hearts club after his wife leaves him for his best friend. At the `One-to-One Club,' a support group for singles, John Lacey consoles and consorts with his lovelorn compatriots. The sitcom was based on a BBC series.
1:00 AMWings
Sensible Joe Hackett and his fun-loving brother, Brian, run a one-plane airline in this folksy ensemble sitcom. Their mutual friend (and on-again, off-again love interest for Joe) is Helen, who works the lunch counter while dreaming of being a cellist. Among their quirky coworkers: a dim-bulb maintenance man and Tony Shalhoub's Italian-immigrant cabbie. The series was produced by the same folks responsible for 'Cheers' and had a nice seven-year run.
1:30 AMHead of the Class
A savvy substitute teacher imparts life lessons to honors students at a Manhattan high school. Although they were overachievers in the classroom, this diverse group had much to learn about growing up. The instructor, Mr. Moore, was replaced by the equally hip but more manic Mr. MacGregor in the final season.
2:00 AMThe Hogan Family
Genial tales of a family with three boys that had a less-than-genial transformation involving three titles. It was originally `Valerie,' but that had to go when star Valerie Harper left in 1987 amid a dispute with the producers. Next, it was `Valerie's Family,' before taking its final title in '88. Harper's character dies, and the brood is raised by her sister, Sandy. And while plotlines were often light, it did tackle, quite bluntly, AIDS, which is contracted by recurring character Rich.
2:30 AMMy Two Dads
A 12-year-old girl is being raised by two buddies who were both once in love with her late mother. One of them is actually the girl's father, but they don't know which one.
3:00 AMSilver Spoons
A wealthy, carefree divorcé discovers that he's the father of a 12-year-old boy, who is naturally wise beyond his years. Rick Schroder, who spent the years following `Silver Spoons' living down the teen idol label that came with playing `The Rickster,' went on to major roles in 1989's `Lonesome Dove' and on `NYPD Blue' (as Det. Danny Sorenson).
3:30 AMThree's Company
A man shares an apartment with two women and pretends to be gay so the landlord won't kick him out in this popular bedroom farce.
4:00 AMI Dream of Jeannie
Playful, popular sitcom about astronaut Tony Nelson and the sexy genie he releases from a bottle. In the blink of an eye, she claims him as her `master.' At first they lived together platonically (while Jeannie of course complicated his life), but the pair got married toward the end of the series' run. The network insisted that Barbara Eden's navel never be shown, despite an already fairly revealing harem costume. The show was created and executive produced by Sidney Sheldon.

5:00 AMBewitched
An enchanting sitcom about beautiful, nose-twitching witch Samantha Stevens, who moves to the suburbs to be with her strait-laced mortal husband, Darrin. The series became a critical and popular success after premiering on ABC in 1964, went on to win a number of Emmys and became one of the longest-running sitcoms in ABC history. The premise was retooled for the 1977-78 spin-off `Tabitha,' which centered on the Stevens' daughter and starred Lisa Hartman and Robert Urich.

6:00 AMMork & Mindy
The smash spin-off from a `Happy Days' episode about a wacky alien from the planet Ork and the sweet-natured woman who teaches him how to adapt on planet Earth. When the show launched in September 1978, it became an instant hit with its mix of frenetic comedy, sci-fi slapstick and a star-in-waiting (master of improv Robin Williams) in the lead. Multiple cast and time-slot changes---not to mention bizarre storylines like Jonathan Winters playing Mork's baby---ultimately alienated fans.

The series, which is based on the Archie Comics character, jumped from ABC to WB as the fifth season got underway with incoming college freshman Sabrina flying out of the nest to live closer to campus.
